Over the centuries, gold bullion coins have cemented their reputation as a shrewd investment for those with a bit of nous and foresight. Gold is regarded as a precious metal universally; those investing in it know it is not subject to the same economic turbulence as standard currency.
This reputation has recently been cemented even further by the fact that a fictional cartoon duck, whose wealth was built in gold bullion coins, topped a list that calculated the wealthiest fictional characters.
Most of us will remember the character Scrooge McDuck, from the children’s cartoon programme DuckTales. This miserly character was the uncle of the three lead characters, Huey, Dewey and Louie. On the cartoon, he was renowned for his wealth, money and gold bullion coins.
The majority of Scrooge McDuck’s gold bullion coins were stored in a giant ‘money bin’, high in the hills above Duckberg.
A list was put together of the richest fictional characters and, low and behold, Scrooge McDuck came out on top. His fortune of gold bullion coins was calculated to have an estimated worth of $44.1 billion, a staggering amount in anyone’s book.
The analysis was conducted by Forbes, a provider of business news and information. The net worth estimates were calculated through an analysis of the fictional characters source material. These were then valued against known real world commodity and share-price movements.
The top five richest fictional characters, as calculated by Forbes were:
• Scrooge McDuck
• Carlisle Cullen
• Artemis Fowl
• Richie Rich
• Jed Clampett
Although the creation of this list was a mere bit of fun, it does demonstrate the value of gold bullion coins. After all, the wealth of the characters was calculated against known real-world prices. Buying gold bullion coins really does give you the opportunity to participate in the rising gold and silver market.
